First Take is blowing up on social media after Shannon Sharpe called Stephen A. Smith ‘Skip’ for the third time in one week. Naturally, this led to a lot of trolling on social media for Sharpe.

And it seems that Sharpe’s new co-host has taken exception to the hate he is getting on social media, with Stephen A. Smith tweeting about the situation and calling out all the trolls.

“Will folks calm the F$&@ down, please? The man (Shannon Sharpe) worked with Skip for 2 1/2 hours every single weekday for 6 1/2 YEARS!” Smith wrote on X.

“I’m surprised he hasn’t called me Skip more. Honest mistake. Nobody is fazed this way! So long as he shows up to First Take when I ask, we are good!”

This is a strong statement from Stephen A. Smith, who is arguably the most affected individual in this entire scenario. He surely wants his new partnership with Shannon Sharpe to work and defending him on social media is the perfect start to what will likely be a long and fruitful association.

NBA Fans Are Accusing Stephen A. Smith Of Making It A Bigger Deal Than It Is

The cardinal rule of social media when it comes to sports is that fans will troll whomever they can when the opportunity presents itself.

And while Smith’s outburst might be appreciated by Shannon Sharpe, fans accused him of making it a bigger deal than it is to draw attention to it.

Another fan allayed any concerns that Smith may have about the situation, explaining that it is all in good fun.

While Stephen A. Smith and most fans seem to have a myopic view of the situation, one fan explained how they can change the entire situation.

Naturally, a statement like this is bound to lead to more trolling, with one fan hilariously referring to Stephen A. Smith as Skip in his reply.

Trying to control the narrative on social media is like fighting against ocean waves, there’s nothing anyone can do about what fans will say. As long as this doesn’t happen again though, Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe will be good.

Pat McAfee Made Fun Of Shannon Sharpe And Stephen A. Smith About It To Their Faces

It’s not just internet trolls that are getting on Shannon Sharpe’s back about this. Pat McAfee is the other superstar addition to ESPN, and he made fun of the situation directly on First Take when making a short appearance.

After Stephen A. Smith asked him a question, Pat McAfee said, “Okay, so that’s a great question Skip.” It led to a lot of laughter from the two hosts, and McAfee sheepishly added, “Sorry guys, I had to do it. Had to do it.”

There has been a lot of change in the world of television sports media, especially at ESPN. So it’s not surprising to see that there is also a heightened level of scrutiny surrounding the new content the company is putting out.

Stephen A. Smith and Shannon Sharpe are both massive names in their own right and once the show irons out the kinks, they will likely lead the conversation around the NBA going into the 2023-24 season.
