Stephen Curry Admits He Wanted To Be Drafted By Knicks

2 Min Read

Steph Curry is the face of the Golden State Warriors. After getting drafted there as the 7th pick in 2009, he has made 6 All-Star teams, 6 All-NBA teams, has won 2 NBA MVPs, and 3 Championships.

He has almost single-handedly changed the legacy of the Warriors.

But back when he was Drafted in 2009, things could have turned out very different for him had he went just one or two spots ahead/behind. In fact, in as he admitted in a guest appearance on the “All The Smoke” podcast, he was hoping to get drafted by the Knicks, who held the 8th pick that year.

“When I got drafted — it’s kind of funny thinking back — I wanted to go to New York and thought I was going to New York,” said Curry. “I was in the draft, I was in the green room like, ‘Oh, we’ll get to the eighth spot and New York will get me,’ and then I got the call from [then-general manager] Larry Riley and like, ‘Alright, we’re gonna pick you in the seventh spot.”

The move would have been a game-changer for the Knickerbockers. That year, instead of walking out with Curry, the team drafted Jordan Hill, who went on to be a solid backup big man.

We know what type of star Steph has become, and he would have had the power to change the game for them for the next few years to come. Alas, we’ll have to leave that scenario up to our dreams.
