The Houston Rockets are currently in a rebuilding period, and they have a lot of young prospects on their roster as of right now. They are clearly not focused on winning as of right now, and they will get another top-tier pick in the NBA Draft this season.
Being on a rebuilding team isn’t easy, and young players’ growth isn’t a linear process. It can be tough for the coaches, especially if the team shows no improvement with time. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, head coach Stephen Silas once broke down in tears after a game because he felt as though he wasn’t reaching his players.
“At one point, Silas broke down in tears after a game because he felt he couldn’t reach his players,” said Windhorst.
This is definitely a tough period for the Houston Rockets, but there are some positives about the team right now. Jalen Green and Alperen Sengun look like fantastic prospects to build around for the Rockets, with Green having potential as an explosive scorer and Sengun already displaying that he is a solid passing big man. Jalen Green has notably made First Team All-Rookie in 2022, and his upside is insane. Hopefully, we see the franchise figure some things out, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.
Stephen Silas Has Criticized Jabari Smith Jr. In The Past
Coach Stephen Silas has had some things to say about his players in the past, and one of them was Jabari Smith Jr., who has had a rough rookie season. In fact, at one point, coach Stephen Silas openly stated that he doesn’t run any play for the young big man.
“He is young and trying to find his way. Jabari has grit and toughness and tries defensively. And he’s not given much at all … I don’t run any plays for Jabari,” said Silas.
It is clear that Stephen Silas did not have a high opinion of Smith Jr’s game at the time, and unfortunately, he has not been the right coach to help Smith Jr. grow as a player. Despite him being well-known as a 3PT shooter in college, Jabari Smith Jr. has not been put in the position to succeed at the NBA level.
It remains to be seen what will end up happening with the Houston Rockets in the future. They are a team that is desperately in need of direction, and hopefully, they get it soon.
