The Golden State Warriors vs. Los Angeles Lakers have ample storylines, adding to that list are Klay Thompson and his father, Mychal, who the former believed would be rooting for the Lakers.

Sharing his thoughts on it was head coach Steve Kerr. “The quote I noticed was Klay said his dad is going to cheer for the Lakers,” Kerr jokingly said to NBC Sports Bay Area after the Warriors’ Game 2 win.

“I mean, c’mon man. Isn’t blood thicker than water? I can’t imagine cheering against my child. That’s not happening in our family. But apparently, in Klay’s family, Dad is going to root for the Lakers. So that gives Klay a little extra motivation,” he further added.

Kerr’s comments come on the back of Thompson revealing that his father would be supporting the Lakers. “I really don’t know. If I had to guess, probably his employer,” Thompson said. “I have so many great memories of him watching the Lakers, watching Kobe, watching Shaq, and Pau. I’m just really excited to try and stick it to the team I grew up rooting for.”

Perhaps Kerr was right about the motivation part as Thompson poured in 30 points on Game 2 to help his team notch up a blowout 127-100 win against the Lakers at the Chase Center on Thursday. And by the looks of it, he won’t be stopping anytime soon.

Klay Thompson’s Dad Has His Take On Who He Would Be Supporting In The Second Round Of The Playoffs

On his part, Klay Thompson kept it quite real about who he would support between the Lakers and the Warriors. Per The Sporting Tribune’s Mark Medina, Mychal said he was simply cheering for a “great basketball game.”

“Either way, I can’t lose,” Thompson told Medina. “If my son wins, I’m thrilled. If the Lakers win, I’m happy.” Mychal was part of the Lakers for four-and-a-half seasons, playing for them between 1987 and 1991, averaging 8.9 PPG, 5.4 RPG, 0.6 APG, 0.5 SPG, and 0.8 BPG. Now, he has been the Lakers’ radio analyst for the past two decades.

All said, there’s no love lost between the two, and Kerr did have a rather cheeky response to the whole thing.
