Steve Kerr Responds To Klay Thompson’s Michael Jordan-Like Promise: “It Is The Ultimate Compliment. The Feeling Is Mutual. I Don’t Wanna Coach A Different Team, Either. We Have Such A Good Thing Going Here.”

To be successful in the NBA, a good relationship between the players and the coach of the team is very essential. That seems to be the case for the Golden State Warriors. The Dubs have been very successful in the last decade or so, but all that wouldn’t have been possible without head coach Steve Kerr.

Sure, the players deserve a lot of credit for the success of this dynasty, but coach Kerr also deserves the nod. For several years, he has managed to ensure that as the team started to become successful, the players’ egos do not get out of hand. Additionally, Kerr’s coaching tactics seem to fit perfectly well with the set of players that he has.

So it’s not a surprise that the players have a lot of respect for him. Recently, Klay Thompson did so in an incredible style. He channeled his inner Michael Jordan and announced he would not be playing for anybody other than Steve Kerr. MJ did something similar back in his playing days too. He announced either to keep coach Phil around or he will leave the team for good.

Kerr recently reacted to Klay’s comments about him and accepted the compliment with open arms while making a similar promise himself.

Via Audacy:

“It is the ultimate compliment. The feeling is mutual. I don’t wanna coach a different team, either. We have such a good thing going here. We have such strong bonds built over the last eight years for me, built over the past 10, 12 years for Steph, Klay, Draymond. We’ve got something special. It’s great to be a part of and we want to keep it going.”

The way things are going as of now, there is no reason for the Warriors to break up. As Kerr mentioned, they have a very good thing going and it is indeed something special.

It won’t be a surprise if the Warriors end up winning a couple of more championships before the current core of the team decides to retire and bid farewell to the game of basketball.
