Steve Kerr Says Missing The Playoffs For Two Straight Seasons And Never Winning The Finals MVP Motivated Stephen Curry Last Year: “He Used Every Bit Of That To Motivate Himself, As Great Players Tend To Do.”

The Golden State Warriors had a magical 2021-22 NBA season, returning to the playoffs after a two-year absence, going all the way to the Finals, and winning their 4th NBA championship in eight years.

That was the perfect return to the postseason for the Warriors, led by Stephen Curry and co., beating their rivals in a relatively easy way to get to the Finals and then take the final step to win another title.

They had a lot to prove last season, but Stephen Curry was the one with all eyes on him. The talented point guard led his squad round after round, ultimately winning the 2022 Finals MVP award after a terrific series against the Boston Celtics.

Steve Kerr Reveals What Motivated Stephen Curry Last Year

Steph was on a mission, and Steve Kerr recently revealed what motivated him to be this guy and destroy his opponents on the way to his fourth title. Kerr made an appearance on ‘Real Ones’ podcast, breaking down Curry’s mentality and the reason why he was locked in during the 2022 NBA playoffs.

Via NBC Sports:

“Well, you got to understand, the guy is a killer,” Kerr said. “He’s a killer and people always look at him as the joyful guy. He’s knocking down these half-court shots and shimmying, but he’s an absolute killer … But with Steph, if you don’t really know him, you may not understand his competitiveness.

“And two years of not being in the playoffs and multiple years of people saying, well, he’s never won Finals MVP. He used every bit of that to motivate himself, as great players tend to do. And he was on a mission all last year, and I think once the playoffs started, he realized, we got a shot here and he was especially in that Boston series boy he was locked in.”

Now that he’s back at the top, Steph won’t want to let go of the throne. Many teams will try to beat him and the Warriors this upcoming season, but this team is still strong and can put up against anybody in the West and the rest of the league. Curry is working on his game, is somehow getting better with age, and now is time to defend his championship against 29 teams ready to destroy him.
