As soon as his signing was announced, the NBA community knew Steve Nash was going to bring refreshing things to the Brooklyn Nets, a team with potential that has struggled in recent years. The Nets signed the former point guard in a move that caused a lot of controversies but the general consensus around the league and within the organization is that this man is going to do good teams at the Barclays Center.
He will have a different approach with his biggest figure, Kevin Durant, who was played his entire career as a forward. Well, not anymore, or at least during Nash’s time with the team. Talking with JJ Redick on his ‘The Old Man and the Three’ podcast, Nash revealed he is going to use the versatility of Kevin Durant and play him in all five positions on the floor.
“Kevin, with his length, is a matchup problem for everyone,” Nash said, via the New York Post. “[Kyrie Irving’s] excellent off the ball. Kevin can play all five positions, and I plan to use him in all five positions. I get excited to use some of the guys on the roster: Caris [LeVert], [DeAndre Jordan], Jarrett Allen, Joe Harris.”
He is confident he can get the best out of Durant given their good relationship, which dates from their days in the Golden State Warriors organization. This will be a challenge for both Nash and Durant but as they’ve shown during their careers, they’re not the type of players that get scared against these situations.
KD and Kyrie Irving will try to lead the Nets to the promised land next season and Nash coaching them can take their levels to the next dimension.
