The 2019-20 Projected Starting Lineup For The Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves had a breakout year a couple of seasons ago, but have not been able to live up to the expectations since. Jimmy Butler’s departure also took a major toll on their chances to compete.

Contents
    • Bench: Shabazz Napier, Jarrett Culver, Jake Layman, Tyrone Wallace, Noah Vonleh, Jordan Bell, Gorgui Dieng
  • Point Guard: Jeff Teague
  • Shooting Guard: Josh Okogie
  • Small Forward: Andrew Wiggins
  • Power Forward: Robert Covington
  • Center: Karl-Anthony Towns

This team looks like they could be a star away from being a threat in the Western Conference, but their current roster is just not going to get the job done.

Long story short, they aren’t likely to make the playoffs next season — but they could still be an interesting team to follow because of their young core.

How will they line up next season? Let’s take a look:

Bench: Shabazz Napier, Jarrett Culver, Jake Layman, Tyrone Wallace, Noah Vonleh, Jordan Bell, Gorgui Dieng

Point Guard: Jeff Teague

Jeff Teague has not been the same player he was during his time with the Hawks. He has struggled with his health and his shot, but the Timberwolves are stuck with him until the end of his deal.

Teague is no longer capable of staying in front of quicker guards, but he’s still a very smart player that doesn’t make many mistakes with the ball in his hands. They will still try to trade him but will have to attach some picks to make the package more appealing.

Shooting Guard: Josh Okogie

Josh Okogie doesn’t get enough recognition as he’s not much of a flashy scorer, but he has got all the tools to become one of the best backcourt defenders in the league.

Okogie needs to put a lot of work on his jump shot and he’ll have a long career in the league as a 3-and-D specialist, but he’ll have to bring his A-game night in and night out to avoid being benched by Jarrett Culver.

Small Forward: Andrew Wiggins

(via People)

It’s pretty safe to say that Andrew Wiggins is not going to be the second coming of Kobe Bryant. Hell, he may not even be better than DeMar DeRozan, and that’s all on him. He just doesn’t seem to care anymore.

Wiggins has all the tools to be a superstar but looks careless with the ball in his hands, hasn’t improved his jump shot, takes a lot of breaks on the defensive end, and is constantly pushed around by smaller players down the lane. He could be traded later in the season if he does not clean up his act.

Power Forward: Robert Covington

(via Canis Hoopus)

The Timberwolves landed one of the ultimate 3-and-D players from the Jimmy Butler deal, and Robert Covington could draw a lot of attention as they head towards the trade deadline next season.

Covington fights between screens, can guard 3 different spots on the floor, takes charges, and is a great spot-up shooter. He’ll give them much-needed shooting at the wings and is a top-notch stopper.

Center: Karl-Anthony Towns

(via Canis Hoopus)

Karl-Anthony Towns needs to step up his game. Scoring and rebounding are great if you’re playing fantasy, but winning basketball is needed to become a true superstar in this league. So far, he has failed to step up when his team has needed him the most.

He’s a master in the post, a great rim protector, an efficient finisher and has a lot of range for a big man, but he needs to embrace his role as a leader and work on his terrible reads on the defensive end.
