When LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers won the 2020 NBA Championship, it felt like the beginning of something great. Sports pundits and fans expected the team to build on that amazing championship run and win more rings in the future.
But it seems like that was the peak of the LeBron James led Lakers. As in the 2020-21 season, the Purple and Gold were eliminated early in the playoffs and in the 2021-22 NBA season, even making it to the postseason seems like a pipedream.
As of now, the Lakers have a record of 27-34 and sit on the 9th spot in the Western Conference table. Currently, the Lakers are on a 3-game losing streak and any hopes of them avoiding the play-in tournament are slowly fading away.
This has become the new normal for the Lakers, but fans hoped for a change in their fortunes when LeBron James apologized and promised to do better a few months ago. Well, at the time, it felt like one of LeBron’s famous announcements of turning on the playoff mode.
For what it’s worth, LeBron has been playing pretty great this season, but the rest of the team is failing to match him. Surprisingly, since James made the statement about doing better, the Lakers are 6-12.
Upon seeing this post by “Basketball Forever,” NBA fans came in defense of the King. As most of them believe, this disaster of a season is not LeBron’s fault.
lakers.life24: “He done his part.”
ralphsuarezz_: “Lebron the only one trying and it would be a rare phenomenon if westbrook helped.”
emmart_lz: “He didn’t say what year.”
bryantespinoza5: “Needs to stop tweeting and talking about being better and actually do it.”
mck4y_: “Yea he a old man now.”
tdoiron18_bil: “That was also upon ad return but then the glass man got hurt like 2 games later.”
teezee44: “So Lebrons not allowed to be wrong? Lol.”
leroylepatron: “It ain’t his fault.”
divvotid: “He’s really doing all he can. on the other hand shouldn’t make promises you can’t keep .”
sixersalliance: “He’s doing his part every game but on defense he’s slacking.”
wrd2yamama: “Trade the whole team including lebron and start over. They can’t get any worse than they already are.”
While most fans agree that LeBron has been doing everything in his power, some believe that the franchise should just trade the current superstars and rebuild from scratch.
That is certainly an option, but considering the Lakers won a championship with the star duo of LeBron and Anthony Davis, it will be a tough call to make.
