League Pass is the way the majority of fans watch the NBA online. The service provides out-of-market streaming of NBA games, so long as the games are not nationally televised.

During the 2021-22 season, an annual subscription to League Pass cost $230, which may have been cost-prohibitive to some fans. However, it seems as though the league is addressing that. A report by Jacob Feldman of Sportico.com revealed that the NBA will offer League Pass at “a dramatically lower price” for the 2022-23 season, with an annual membership being only $100.

The NBA will offer its out-of-market streaming service at a dramatically lower price this season as leagues continue to grow their direct-to-consumer businesses.

The League Pass standard package (which now includes NBA TV access too) will cost $100 for the 2022-23 season, according to renewal notices recently sent to subscribers, down from $230. Fans can also opt to pay $15/month. The premium package, which allows for multiple streams and doesn’t include commercials, will see its price lowered from $280 to $130, according to a league source.

The price changes bring the NBA’s streaming product in line with other digital services. Netflix’s standard plan, for instance, currently costs $15.49 per month. ESPN+, meanwhile, recently announced plans to raise its annual fee to $100.

There is no doubt that this will allow more people to afford League Pass on top of their other monthly expenses. Perhaps, we’ll even see the fanbase for the NBA increase as a result of this price reduction. The NBA is clearly a growing league with a young fanbase. In fact, NBA stars generate a lot of social media buzz and interaction. It was previously revealed that Stephen Curry generated 1.4 billion views on NBA social media accounts, while Ja Morant generated 791 million.

Stephen Curry has generated 1.4 billion video views across the NBA’s social-media accounts this season.

That’s by far the most of any NBA player. Nobody even comes close; Ja Morant was the next-highest player, but he only generated 791 million views:

Hopefully, we see the NBA do well in the future. There’s no doubt that basketball is an exciting sport and the league trending on social media consistently bodes well for its future.

The start of the NBA season is just around the corner, with the starting date being October 19th. Hopefully, we see the league’s viewership via League Pass improve next year, and it certainly seems as though that will be the case.
