Kyrie Irving is an enigma. There is no telling what the point guard will do next, both on the court and off of it. Kyrie can be very wholesome and involved in a lot of social work, but at the same time, he can be unavailable to play for his team due to rejecting a vaccine mandate, both things that became apparent during the 2021-22 season with the Brooklyn Nets.

And while his talent is undeniable, the erratic nature of his availability and his demands can create a contentious environment within the organizations he is a part of. As the Nets look to trade Irving away, all these factors will be in consideration for the teams that are hoping to acquire the star guard.

And one of the teams Shams Charania mentioned as a suitor, the Philadelphia 76ers, has seemingly not entered into any talks to bring Irving to the team. NBCS Philadelphia’s John Clark reported that even though discussions have been held internally, it has gone no further than that for the Sixers.

“I’m told despite reports, the Sixers are not pursuing Kyrie Irving. I’m told there were discussions internally about Kyrie and other players, but the Sixers never entered into actual talks with Brooklyn. As far as Kevin Durant, remember he has a big say in where he will wind up.”

Considering that James Harden joined Philadelphia after asking to move away from the Nets organization and there were reports that it was largely thanks to issues with Kyrie, the Sixers bringing Irving in always seemed like a bit of a long shot.

The Lakers continue to be the one team consistently linked with a move for Irving, with the belief being that a deal centered around Russell Westbrook is possible. Where Kyrie ends up playing next season is hard to say at the time, but it would seem that the Sixers are not the likely destination.
