The Washington Wizards and the Washington Capitals are considering moving out of the capital city and shifting base to Northern Virginia.

“Two people familiar with the talks, including a Monumental official, described them as preliminary and exploratory,” according to the Washington Post, while also adding that Monumental, the group that owns both franchises and the Mystics has also been in contact with the city officials to also fund arena upgrades.

Both teams have played at Capital One Arena their home since 1998, prior to which both franchises played at the Capital Centre in Landover, Maryland.

Per Sports Illustrated, the last NBA team that moved to a different state was the Nets who left New Jersey for Brooklyn before 2013. Likewise, no NHL team moved bases since the Atlanta Thrashers became the Winnipeg Jets in 2012.

It’s still unclear whether the team will see a major overhaul in terms of the name, but watch this space for more developments.

Major Changes Are Ringing In With The Wizards

With the Wizards trading Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis and Kyle Kuzma now a free agent, Washington has gone into a full-fledged rebuild with Jordan Poole pretty much looked at as the main star after they traded veteran Chris Paul for him.

For Poole, this is his chance to cement himself as a superstar. He averaged 20.4 points, 4.5 assists, and 2.7 rebounds last season, and his numbers are bound to go up as he will be the first option for the team.

Last season, the Wizards had a 35-47 record and finished the season as the 12th seed in the East Now, without  Beal, Porzingis, and Kuzma from that roster, the Wizards will be lucky if they can scrap out double-digit wins next season.

Overall, the Wizards have made questionable trades. Even if they wanted to rebuild, they could have planned their moves wisely.
