Tim Legler On DeMar DeRozan: “He’s As Good Now As He Was At His Best In Toronto.”

DeMar DeRozan has been a spectacular offseason acquisition for the Chicago Bulls. He is a master of the midrange, and he has many big moments in a Bulls uniform this season. Currently, DeMar DeRozan is averaging 26.8 PPG, 5.2 RPG, and 4.2 APG, and it’s clear that he is playing at an All-NBA level.

Analyst Tim Legler has recently lauded DeMar DeRozan for being able to “revert” to the level he was at in Toronto and noted that DeRozan might be even better now. It’s clear that this has been a good year for DeRozan, and he even broke Michael Jordan’s record for the most points scored in his first 16 games with the Bulls earlier this year. He has also recently led the Bulls to a win over the Lakers with a 38 point performance.

He has surprised people myself included, that he could revert back to a level every bit as good as him at his best in Toronto. Maybe even surpass that.

This is his highest scoring averaging since 2016-17. It’s the second highest scoring average of his career. To be able to do that at 32 years old. Just had a run in San Antonio where he was still very good, but his numbers across the board came down. The volume was down, you didn’t know what that was related to. Minutes were down to a certain extent.

So you just think “Well okay, we’ve seen the best of DeMar DeRozan to this point”. Well that’s not true, because he’s as good now as he was at his best in Toronto, and it’s one of the best stories in the league.

DeMar DeRozan has clearly defied the expectations of many analysts for this year. This is arguably his best year ever. DeRozan has definitely become underrated over the last few years due to his numbers being lower due to reduced offensive usage in San Antonio.

The Chicago Bulls are currently the 2nd seed in the Eastern Conference, and DeMar Derozan’s excellent season has played a part in that. Hopefully, their stellar play continues, and it’s good to see a historic franchise become competitive once again.
