Tracy McGrady took a huge shot at several NBA owners

T-Mac says many owners in the league treat their NBA teams as ‘hobby gig’

The Hall of Famer says many teams do not even try to win NBA Championships as owners make their money from somewhere else

Having competent owners is very important for an NBA team’s success. The likes of the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers are the perfect example of it. They have owners who are ready to do everything they can to win titles.

According to NBA legend Tracy McGrady, many NBA owners take the league for granted. T-Mac thinks they treat their teams like ‘hobby gig’ instead of focusing on making them competitive.

“Every organization is not trying to win a championship in the NBA,” McGrady said. “For some of these owners, the NBA might just be a hobby gig for them. They own an NBA team, it’s just a hobby gig for them. They make their money somewhere else.”

McGrady added: “If you look at some of the teams that have not even competed or made the playoffs in 15 to 20 years, you trying to tell me they’re trying to win a championship? If they are, they need to fire everybody in their office.”

Owning an NBA team and knowing actually how to run it are two different things. It seems like most owners do not care about the latter.

Hopefully, this changes in the future so fans can enjoy a more competitive league and see different teams make it to the postseason each year.

Tracy McGrady Says About Half Of The Players In The NBA Are Just Playing For Money

If the owners are not doing their 100% to keep their teams competitive, the players are at fault as well.

McGrady claims only 50% of NBA players actually play the game of basketball with passion. The rest? They only care about their paychecks.

T-Mac thinks that’s the reason why many players suddenly improve their game during contract years as opposed to the rest of the team, where they are subpar.
