Spurs legend Tim Duncan has stayed out of the public eye since ending his NBA career in 2016. Besides a few roles as an assistant coach, he’s gone years without drawing any attention, and that’s clearly how he prefers it.

While Duncan’s achievements will never fade, there is a general sense that today’s youngest fans are starting to take his career for granted. That’s the reason behind Tracy McGrady’s latest movement to launch a documentary covering Tim Duncan’s storied career.

“People need to know more about Tim Duncan. He’s a very quiet guy, but he’s a freaking winner. To me, he’s arguably the best power forward of all time.”

In 19 years with the Spurs, Duncan thrived alongside Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, and head coach Gregg Popovich. As a 15x All-Star, 2x MVP, and 5x Champion, Duncan achieved almost everything there is to do in the league, and his resume is second to none.

Sadly, in part because of his laid-back personality, Duncan was never quite as popular as some of his peers (like Kobe Bryant and LeBron James), and he never got the same publicity.

A documentary on the guy, and the Spurs dynasty as a whole, would certainly include a ton of untold stories, but it would also shed some light on a new side to Tim Duncan, one that fans have rarely seen before.

Is Tim Duncan A Top 5 NBA Player Ever?

The NBA All-Time hierarchy will always be a matter of great debate, but most fans can agree that Tim D belongs somewhere near the top. Besides all of his team and individual accolades, he’s got almost two decades’ worth of games to back up his claim to greatness.

Amazingly, Duncan has done more during his career than most franchises have in their existence.

“If Tim Duncan was a franchise, he’d be the 5th with most NBA Championships (5), trailing just the Celtics (17), Lakers (16), Bulls (6) and Warriors (6). Also, just the Lakers (10) and Bulls (6) have more Larry O’Brien trophies than Tim. Furthermore, he won 12 division titles, that’s more than all franchises except for the Lakers (32), Celtics (31), Heat (13), and Bucks (13). Finally, he also has won more conference titles (in the current alignment) (6) than all franchises but the Lakers (18), Celtics (9) and Bulls (6).”

Needless to say, Tim Duncan knew how to win and he was unstoppable at his best. From a fan’s perspective, it would be cool to get a closer look at Duncan and his basketball story but it’s unlikely the guy will go out of his way to draw attention himself.
