It is one of the greatest moments in a person’s life when they become a father and Trae Young got to experience it on the 2nd of June. The Atlanta Hawks superstar broke the news on Twitter on Friday night as he and Shelby Miller welcomed their first child.
Young and Harris have been together since Trae’s days at the University of Oklahoma back in 2017 and the two got engaged in December last year. They now become proud parents to Tydus Reign Young!

Trae now enters a new phase of fatherhood in his life and that will be a big adjustment for him, no doubt. However, we have seen NBA players thrive after becoming dads. Fred VanVleet famously went crazy hot from beyond the arc in the 2019 Eastern Conference Finals against the Milwaukee Bucks after becoming a father, and Giannis Antetokounmpo even joked about that when he became a father in 2020. There definitely seems to be something there, as we have seen Derrick White play out of his mind in these playoffs after becoming a father during the Eastern Conference Finals.
Hawks fans will hope that Trae does something similar next season after a somewhat disappointing campaign this time around. The Hawks came into this season on the back of reaching the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, but only managed to get the 8th seed, and were eliminated in 5 games in the first round by the Miami Heat. Young struggled against Miami’s defense too as he averaged just over 15 points per game as opposed to his regular-season average of 28.4. Maybe fatherhood will be the key to a turnaround next season, but for now, Trae gets to focus on becoming a good father to Tydus.
