The Trae Young-New York Knicks rivalry continues after the franchise was heavily trolled during November’s mayoral election. Following an entertaining first-round series between the Atlanta Hawks and the New York Knicks in the 2021 playoffs, Young became the Knicks’ No. 1 enemy.

The young guard taunted the franchise and his fans, doing everything he could to get on their nerves and backing it up with his game. He took the Hawks to the Eastern Conference finals, demolishing the Knicks to start his magical postseason run.

Given that dominance, some fans started saying Young rules New York, and one person took it to the next level, voting for him in the 2021 New York City mayoral race

In November’s election, Young received one write-in vote to be New York’s next mayor, according to the New York City Board of Elections report that was released Wednesday. The Hawks superstar will not have to move into Gracie Mansion and take on the mayoral duties. Young finished 753,800 votes shy of Democrat Eric Adams, the winner of the race.

This news went viral and Trae reacted to it, thanking the city of New York and the person that voted for him. He revealed he never got a mayor vote before (obviously), which makes things a lot funnier.

That’s Love NY❤️ for real..

Never got a mayor vote! ‍♂️❄️

Neither the Hawks nor Knicks started this season in a great way. In fact, Atlanta has won only one more game than New York (12-10), ranking 7th in the East, while the latter are 10th with an 11-10 record.

They already clashed this season, without all the controversy of their playoff duels. Their next clash will be Dec. 25, in one of the Christmas Day games the league set up for this season.

Trae will return to the Madison Square Garden trying to remind Knicks fans how traumatic their last encounter was. He’s all-in about being a villain and the New Yorkers seemingly love to hate him.
