Amid ongoing turmoil, the Atlanta Hawks earned a much-needed victory on Sunday, thanks to a lucky game-winning shot from AJ Griffin in the closing seconds of the game.
At the time, Trae didn’t think much of how he celebrated the miracle victory — but it has since come back to haunt him in a big way.
According to a league announcement this week, Young has been fined $25,000 for throwing the ball into the stands at the end of the game.
Hawks guard Trae Young was fined $25,000 by the NBA on Monday for throwing the game ball into the stands a day earlier following an overtime victory against the Chicago Bulls in Atlanta. Young hit a 20-foot jumper with 1 second left to give the Hawks a 121-119 lead in the extra period.
Atlanta’s A.J. Griffin took sideline alley-oop pass from Jalen Johnson and scored on a turnaround jumper with Derrick Jones Jr. defending to give the Hawks a 123-122 victory.
Trae Young Calls Out NBA After $25,000 Fine
$25,000 is like pocket change for Trae, but that doesn’t mean he enjoys being punished for having a little fun. Clearly, he takes issue with how the league enforces some of its sportsmanship rules.
Unsurprisingly, Young spoke out about it on social media and apologized to the fans on behalf of the league.
Sorry to the hawks fan(s) who got a chance to touch the game winning ball. Didn’t know I couldn’t do that. Can’t Celebrate shit anymore

The league has always been flexible when it comes to changing some of its rules and policies, so maybe they will consider loosening the restrictions on in-game celebrations as well. There’s no way to know for sure how the league is thinking on the matter.
But for Trae and the Hawks, it’s yet another unfortunate moment in what has been a messy season.
After reports of a rift in his relationship with Nate McMillan, there are serious questions about his leadership capabilities. if the Hawks don’t start winning more games soon, things could get even uglier for the tea ahead of the deadline.
For now, all they can do is take it one game at a time, and that’s exactly the mindset Trae has had the whole season. He just has to remember not to get too caught up in the moment.
