The Atlanta Hawks are going to be playing in the 2023 playoffs against the Boston Celtics in the first round after beating the Miami Heat in the 7-8 play-in game.

Jimmy Butler said he was guaranteeing a win for the Heat before the game, something Trae Young reminded him of in the post-game press conference.

“I know Jimmy [Butler] guaranteed a dub, so I was really focused on making sure that didn’t happen.”

The Hawks were comfortably the better team this game, with the Heat’s offense looking stagnant and ineffective at times. Butler couldn’t lead his team to success, meanwhile the Hawks’ had a solid team performance with 7 players in double-digit points to book their ticket to the playoffs.

The Miami Heat In Danger Of Missing The Playoffs

The Miami Heat were the No. 1 seed in the East last season and went to the Conference Finals. All of that means nothing when they’re one loss away from missing the playoffs entirely this season. They will face the winner of the Toronto Raptors and Chicago Bulls to decide who faces the Milwaukee Bucks in the first round as the 8 seed.

The offensive rhythm of the Miami squad right now looks extremely hampered. Butler and Tyler Herro have a natural ability to create scoring opportunities and get numbers up, but it’s hard to consistently get production from the players around them. Bam Adebayo had an underwhelming game and they need greater offensive production from him to make an impact.

If the Heat lose to the Raptors or Bulls and miss out on the playoffs, it may signal the end of the current era of the Heat and make Pat Riley think about overhauling the roster before Jimmy Butler starts regressing.
