One quick look at the playoff bracket will tell you that this is no ordinary season for the NBA.

With many of the bigger market franchises out of contention, the teams left in the title race haven’t won a Chip in decades and many haven’t won one at all.

With that in mind, it’s interesting to think about which team America is rooting for right now. Is it the Nets, who have three of the best basketball players in the world? Is it the Bucks, who may be looking at their best chance to win a title?

The Phoenix Suns appear to be America’s team right now.

A map created by Betonline.ag based on geotagged Twitter data from the last week tracking official fan hashtags shows 17 states are rooting for the Suns in the NBA playoffs, making them the most popular team by a wide margin. The Utah Jazz, Milwaukee Bucks, and Philadelphia 76ers finished in a three-way tie for second place with eight states each.

Honestly, it really should be no surprise that the Suns are receiving such strong support right now. After years of subpar play, the arrival of Chris Paul has ignited the franchise to new heights, and they are on the verge of something truly special.

As major underdogs to start the season, nobody had them going this far.

But here they are, waiting for their opponent in the Western Conference Finals. Considering all the team has had to endure, it’s not hard not to root for them to succeed.
