Victor Oladipo Could Join Miami Heat In 2021 Free Agency

Pat Riley and the Miami Heat have some big plans next summer and, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald, they might involve Indiana’s Victor Oladipo. Here’s what he said in a recent article:

“Indiana guard Victor Oladipo (2021 unrestricted free agent): He trains in South Florida in the offseason, and from all indications, likes South Florida. The Heat likes his game.

“And there’s this: ESPN reported that the Pacers and Oladipo had talks about an extension before the season but concluded it was best to table those discussions.

“SNY reported that at one point in those conversations, the Pacers broached a four-year extension for around $80 million. Talks didn’t progress much from there.

“Oladipo returned to the court in January after missing more than a calendar year with a ruptured quadriceps tendon and was predictably rusty, averaging 13.8 points and shooting 39.1 percent from the field and 30.4 percent on threes. But he averaged 23.1 points in 78 games in 2017-18 and 18.8 in 36 games in 2018-19.

“I would put him No. 1 on the most likely list if Miami doesn’t get Antetokounmpo, and if he returns to his old form — two big ifs.”

Miami’s quest to find another All-Star is no secret to the basketball world. Even with Jimmy Butler and first-tike All-Star Bam Adebayo, they don’t yet have enough pieces to compete with the likes of Milwaukee or any of the Western elite.

Oladipo might not be that revolutionary acquisition fans are hoping for, but his presence would be a major boon to the team. On the offensive end, he’s more than capable of creating his own shots and will allow easier opportunities for his teammates to score.

Of course, the biggest concern for Vic is his health. Having played in just 49 games over the last two seasons, there are major questions about his durability and the sustainability of his All-Star level of play throughout a whole season.

The last season he played 70+ games, he averaged 23.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists on 47% shooting. He is also a 2x All-Star, former Rookie of the Year, and 2018 Most Improved Player.

Signing Olaidpo is a risk but there is no doubt the dude is talented. In Miami, he might just be what they need to push them over the edge. It’s all up to Pat now.
