Much before he became the Golden State Warriors GM and president of basketball operations, Bob Myers was a fan of the franchise.

In an emotional press conference on Tuesday where he revealed he was stepping down from his role, Myers revealed how he was a die-hard fan of the franchise as a kid.

“To the fans … oh, boy,” Myers said, getting teary-eyed. “I grew up a fan of the Warriors. I was like the 10-year-old kid in the upper [bowl at] Oracle. I would get Warriors tickets for my birthday, and you know, months in advance, this is when you actually got the hard tickets. There were no digital tickets. So my brother and my dad and I would go. I was born in ’75, and that was the last championship.”

Now, he was a man who shaped a decade of Warriors basketball and played an instrumental role in the four championships they won since he took over as the GM.

Myers also explained why he was leaving the role. “I have too many different emotions that I’m still processing. But the bottom line is that this job, the one I’m in, requires complete engagement and complete effort. If you can’t do it, then you shouldn’t do it and so that’s the answer. I can’t do that to our players, I can’t do that to Joe,” he said.

Reports of Myers stepping down earlier this week did the rounds and were proved true soon after when he revealed he was stepping down.

Stephen Curry Had A Heartfelt Message For Bob Myers

Soon after news of Myers’ resignation broke, Warriors superstar Stephen Curry shared a wholesome message on Instagram thanking the former GM for all his efforts.

“Before the trophies and the memories over this run, I remember I told you, ‘You better get it right!’ And you did. The GM role was great and you did your thing, but forever grateful for you as a friend forever. Changed each other’s lives! Enjoy the next chapter, my guy. Thank you, Bob!”

With Myers’ exit, the offseason will be a tough one for the Warriors as they will look to make some moves and contract settlements that would play a key role in their planning for the upcoming season. But for now, it’s not Myers’ headache to worry about it.
