  • A video of LeBron James blocking Derrick Rose 17 times has gone viral
  • James easily swatted away Rose’s layup attempts
  • James and Rose briefly played together for the Cleveland Cavaliers

The lack of a Defensive Player of the Year trophy on his resume makes fans forget how phenomenal LeBron James is on the defensive end of the court. Throughout his career, he has blocked several superstars.

The youngest MVP in NBA history, Derrick Rose, was victim to LeBron James’ ruthless blocks several times during their matchups. A video posted by the Twitter account “bronhistory” shows that the King blocked 17 of Rose’s shots. There’s a similar video where LeBron James has blocked Rajon Rondo 12 times for fun during their battles.

During the early 2000s, the rivalry between the Miami Heat and the Chicago Bulls saw LeBron James and Derrick Rose pitched against each other a plethora of times. In that era, Rose was one of the most elite scorers in the league, but he was still no match for James at times.

Despite being rivals for eight seasons, the two superstars shared the court together during the 2017-18 season for the Cleveland Cavaliers. Rose featured in just 16 games for the Cavs, averaging 9.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.

These numbers were far from prime D-Rose’s output. For reference, Rose averaged 25.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game in the 2010-11 NBA season. At 22 years old, Rose became the youngest player in NBA history to win the MVP award.

Derrick Rose Tried To Recruit LeBron James To The Chicago Bulls

LeBron James shocked the league in 2010 after announcing his decision to form a Big 3 with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat.

But James and Wade contemplated joining the Bulls in the offseason as well. In fact, the only reason why the move didn’t happen was because of Derrick Rose’s presence on the team. Wade revealed that he and James would have struggled with ball contribution with Rose on the Bulls.

Over the years, many have believed that Rose never tried to recruit James to the Bulls. However, the 3x NBA All-Star once admitted that he indeed tried to convince James to join Chicago.

I did the LeBron recruiting for Chicago,” Rose wrote in his autobiography I’ll Show You. “It was a day after practice, and Bron and Chris Bosh and all of them, we got word — everyone heard it around the league — they were together on one of those banana boat things and were about to team up somewhere.”

It would have been crazy to see prime James and Rose on the same team. They would have surely won at least a couple of NBA Championships together.

As of now, James is preparing to enter Year 21 in the NBA as a 38-year-old with the Los Angeles Lakers. On the other hand, 34-year-old Rose will don the jersey of the Memphis Grizzlies in the 2023-24 season as part of his next chapter in the NBA.
