The New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves played in one of the only high-stakes matchups of the final day of the regular season to see which team would clinch the 8th seed.

The Wolves ultimately clinched the seed in a controversial game with fights between teammates, but a nice moment of sportsmanship was shown when Anthony Edwards and Zion Williamson dapped each other up after the game.

Williamson didn’t play in the Pels’ loss and is likely going to miss their postseason as well. He definitely won’t play in the Pelicans’ play-in game against the Oklahoma City Thunder, with his future status unclear. He’s been out since January 2 with a hamstring injury.

An Exciting Play-In Battle In The West

The play-in tournament in the West had one of the most compelling in-season races we have seen with the new format. Now, the Lakers, Wolves, Pelicans, and Thunder will battle it out to see which 2 teams occupy the 7th and 8th seed in the West.

The Lakers and Wolves will face each other in the 7-8 battle where the winner advances to face the Memphis Grizzlies in the first round, while the loser faces the winner of the Pelicans vs. Thunder game. The winner from that game will advance to face the Denver Nuggets while the loser will be eliminated.

The Wolves will be without wing-stopper Jaden McDaniels, who broke his hand after punching a wall tonight. They also may be without Rudy Gobert for their play-in game, depending on whether Gobert gets suspended by his team. It’s a race to the playoffs and all these teams will battle tooth and nail to keep their season alive.
