Anthony Edwards is a vicious competitor on the floor. His improvement over every season proves he wants to get better and be a dominant player in the NBA.

In a recent interview, Edwards spoke about the lost art of the best player on one team guarding the best player on the opponents’ team. He wants modern NBA stars to do that more often.

“I am all about that, man. If the other team’s got a guard that’s a premier guard, that’s supposed to be big time, I am ready for that. I think we need more of that, the best players guarding the best players. I don’t think it should be one of the best players going to guard one of the other guys getting a break. I think that’s what people come to see so I am going to give them what they come to see.”

In recent games, we have seen Edwards take on the challenge of guarding players like Kawhi Leonard, Klay Thompson, Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving, and the other premier players around the NBA. He practices what he preaches, but he also does have an explosive 2-way skill set not all the players in the league have.

Is Anthony Edwards The Minnesota Timberwolves Best Player?

Edwards was the only player from the Timberwolves to make the All-Star team this year, though as an injury replacement. Karl-Anthony Towns has been injured for over half the season and Rudy Gobert has taken a while to adjust himself to his new team. Edwards has been the one carrying the mantle.

He is averaging 24.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.5 assists this season. He’s also showing potential All-Defense team prowess with his 1.7 steals per game.

If the Wolves manage to earn one of the top-6 seeds in the West, it’ll be a massive reflection of his ability on the court. Given the Wolves have already gone all-in, the future success of the franchise may be entirely reliant on his progression into an All-NBA talent.
