Michael Jordan is one of the best players in the history of basketball. No player defined the 90s era of the NBA more than Mike. Between 1990 to 1998, Jordan won six NBA championships with the Chicago Bulls, making one of the greatest dynasties in the history of the NBA. But many fans have wondered how Jordan would fare in today’s NBA. Well, according to one former NBA star, he would be even better today.
Former NBA All-Star Vlade Divac spoke recently with Buka, where they asked him about Michael Jordan. Divac boldly claimed that Michael Jordan would average 80 points in the modern-day NBA. He argued that the rules of today’s game would allow Jordan to dominate on a level that he never could have in the 90s.
He further argued that today’s NBA emphasizes and favors attacking basketball over the defense. This is because attacking basketball is more attractive to casual viewers. Because of how different the league is today compared to the past, it isn’t possible to compare Jordan with anyone in today’s game.
“Okay, let me explain to you. If you have Jordan in todays’ NBA, he would be averaging 80 points per game because of the rules. Then you can compare who is the best. The rules have changed, there is no physical contact, no hard game, no focused defense. They play for the fans, which is nice, and score more points, which is also nice. But the game loses competition, so it is impossible to compare one generation to another, because it is a different era.”
Divac also claimed that MJ was the greatest to ever do it, and cannot be held to any other player in history. Vlade had the opportunity to play against Jordan early in his career, both against the Chicago Bulls and the Washington Wizards. So he got to experience first hand what ‘His Airness’ can do on a basketball court.
