Kobe Bryant had a mischievous side to him, and it was on full display when he pranked a cameraman and shot a wide grin at him soon after.

The Lakers had a game in Oakland and Bryant was walking into the locker room drenched in sweat and carrying a water bottle. His intense pre-game routines are well-documented and this was one such instance where he was gearing up for a game and prepping to suit up.

A cameraman was tracking his move and the guard appeared oblivious to being filmed, only for him to quickly duck the lens and hide behind a pillar, before emerging again and walking off with a smile on his face.

It was typical of Bryant who had a rather quirky, yet playful sense of humor — a trait that was often masked when he was playing.

But off of it, he was a funny man. His ardents will know that he had a funny bone, especially when he went off on his own comparison between his jerseys 8 and 24. So his prank doesn’t necessarily come as a surprise although the Black Mamba was a ferocious competitor on the hardwood.

Kobe Bryant Was Locked In When It Came To All Matters Basketball

The Mamba Mentality took over when Kobe Bryant was on the court. It took over when he was practicing, and it definitely took over when he pushed his teammates to be better versions of themselves.

Bryant’s ridiculous and intense “blackout” workouts have been one of the most-narrated stories on the NBA circuit, and in order to get his teammates to be on the same page, the Lakers legend had a rather unique way of rounding them up.

Speaking to Lewis Howes, Kobe revealed how he would agree to go out with players when they went to a different city. However, he would make it explicitly clear he would be at their doors at 5 am the following day to get them to the gym and prepare.

“I would tell guys, we got back-to-backs. I don’t care if we’re in Miami, I don’t care if we’re in a great city like Chicago. You can’t go out, you got to rest, right? You play on Monday and then you play on Tuesday. Guys don’t listen, right? So, a few times I said, ‘alright, we’ll all go out, we’ll go out together. I’ll drink with you. But the next morning, I’m banging on your door at 5 in the morning. Let’s go! They’d be like, ‘where are we going?’ I said, ‘I hung out with you, now you come hang out with me. This is what we do, alright? Let’s go!’ We’re at the gym, we’re working out, right? We hit the bus, we go to practice, we play that night, and they’re dead. Everybody was like, ‘lesson learned.’ If you’re gonna do that, do that, but don’t let that compromise what we’re here to do.”

Trust Bryant to be the man to leave no stone unturned. There’s no denying that he struck the perfect balance between fun and work, although he leaned more toward the latter for a long time in his decorated career. But he had a humorous vein for sure. He will be missed.
