The Missing Piece The Boston Celtics Need To Win A Championship

The Boston Celtics fell just 1 game shy of the NBA Finals after taking LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers to 7 games despite the notable absences of Gordon Hayward and Kyrie Irving for most of the season.

  • 3. Karl-Anthony Towns
  • 2. DeMarcus Cousins
  • 1. Kawhi Leonard

Brad Stevens proved once again that he’s a rising star when it comes to coaching and the Celtics overcame all adversity and every odd against them, with their young studs really stepping up and showing that they’re All-Stars in the making.

Even though, game 7 proved that this stacked team needs a superstar in order to take a step forward and finally end James’ dominance in the East, as well as being perhaps the only team in the Conference capable of beating the Warriors in the Finals.

Sadly, money’s pretty tight for them right now, so they wouldn’t be able to offer much money to any of the top-tier free agents up for grabs over the summer. Even though, they should definitely try and trade for any of the 3 players we’re about to mention in order to go back to their old dominant ways.

3. Karl-Anthony Towns

According to several reports, things aren’t going quite well within the Timberwolves organization and Tom Thibodeau’s relationship with Towns has reached a tough spot, so Danny Ainge would be smart to try and lure the young stud to the TD Garden to pair him next to Al Horford.

An Irving, Hayward, Tatum, Horford and Towns would provide a lot of balance, but the Celtics would pretty much have to part ways with Terry Rozier, Jaylen Brown and several picks in order to land the big guy.

2. DeMarcus Cousins

In order to get DeMarcus Cousins, the Celtics would have to do a sign and trade with the Pelicans, now that it seems that he’s a lock to leave the team after unfollowing them on every social media platform a couple of weeks ago.

Cousins would finally make his long-awaited playoffs debut and have a huge shot at a Championship, while the Pelicans could still get something in return for him, so that would definitely be a win-win situation. Also, the Irving, Hayward, Tatum, Horford, Cousins lineup doesn’t seem so bad if you ask us.

Of course, DeMarcus will take a pay cut because Boston Celtics don’t have enough money on the salary cap. They will need to trade Jaylen Brown, Marcus Morris and probably Terry Rozier if Cousins decide to sign a long-term deal.

1. Kawhi Leonard

And finally, they should try and get Kawhi Leonard, as he seems like a lock to leave the team despite reports stating that they plan to hand him a huge extension. Also, Popovich would turn Brown into a stud in no time, while Rozier could fix their backup point guard woes as Patty Mills once did for them.

Leonard is the greatest LeBron James stopper in the world, not to mention he’s also the Warriors kryptonite and a guy more than capable of locking down Kevin Durant.

Kyrie, Hayward, Leonard, Tatum and Horford would be a dynasty in the making, especially under Brad Stevens top-notch defensive system.

The biggest challenge will be the salary cap and Danny Ainge could send Marcus Smart (sign and trade), Jaylen Brown, Terry Rozier and Marcus Morris for one of the best players in the league, Kawhi Leonard.
