The Dallas Mavericks May Be In Play To Sign Giannis Antetokounmpo This Offseason

3 Min Read

Giannis Antetokounmp is, by far, the most sought-after free-agent of the 2020 offseason. At just 25-years-old, he’s a 4x All-Star, 3x All-NBA Player, 2020 Defensive Player of the Year, and about to be crowned as the MVP for the second straight season.

With as great as he has been, and the thought of how much better he can become, there isn’t a team in the league who wouldn’t want to bring him on.

And, interestingly enough, the Dallas Mavericks may have as good a shot as anyone They will be entering this offseason with cap space and a young superstar looking for a partner.

Reddit u/dolphinsfan9292 explained the potential scenario in a post on Reddit:

I don’t believe Giannis will leave the Bucks, but the one team that to really watch out for are the Mavericks. Not only do they have the cap space when Giannis becomes a free agent they also have another top 5 player not even in his prime that they can dangle in front of Giannis.

There’s a lot of incentives going to the Mavs. No state income tax, Texas, in general, is growing into being the next California where tons of tech companies and real estate people are moving there so investment opportunities are going to be huge, and the fit with Porzingis and Luka is a match made in heaven.

It’s hard to deny that a partnership with Luka. Giannis and Porzingis in Dallas would be something special. Not only is it a great fit on the court, but their humble and low-key personalities would also seemingly mesh off the court as well.

Plus, in a prime location like Dallas, Texas, Antetokounmpo would get to experience life in a big market with a booming number of opportunities.

Obviously we have to wait and see what the Bucks are able to do this postseason before determining their chances of keeping Giannis. But, if he were to leave, there may be no better opportunity on earth for him than with the Mavs.
