Paul George On His Current Situation: “I’m Home. I Want To Retire A Los Angeles Clipper.”

Paul George’s inaugural season in Los Angeles wasn’t exactly the embodiment of perfection.

Plagued with locker-room drama and inconsistent play, the Clippers failed to launch from the very start. By the end, they were bounced early in the playoffs by the Nuggets in the second round after blowing a 3-1 lead.

Following the end of their disappointing season, Paul George was the subject of most of the criticism, as fans blamed him for failing to show up when it mattered most.

Even still, PG remains committed to the team, telling reporters that it’s the place he wants to retire.

“Usually, I’m in a position where I kind of just want to think about all scenarios,” George said. “But in this situation, I’m happy. I’m home. This was one of the teams I grew up loving, wanting to be a part of for a long time. I’m committed. I’m here. I want to retire a Clipper. I’ll say that every year. This is where my heart is. I’m happy regardless of whatever happens. I’m happy to be here.”

It should be noted that he expressed similar commitments to the Pacers and Thunder before forcing his way out of those situations. Many fans, including within the Clipper community, don’t take much stock in George claiming loyalty to the team now.

Still, LA is home for him and he’s playing now with the best team he’s had in his career. If he is able to help lead the Clippers to a title next season, it could rectify all his past failures.

Until then, gearing up for another season and staying rooted with his current team is definitely a step in the right direction.
