2x All-Star Andre Drummond is officially on the trade block, with the Cleveland Cavaliers looking high and low for the best offer.
Drummond, 27, is one of the NBA’s best rebounders, and several teams have already been reported to have an interest in acquiring him. Perhaps the most intriguing of these teams are the Boston Celtics, who have struggled to carry over their momentum from last season.
According to FortyEightMinutes.com’s Sam Amico, the C’s interest in the star big man isn’t just surface-level.
“Sources told FortyEightMinutes the Celtics in particular have a ‘strong’ interest in Drummond. It is not known if the [New York] Knicks too are interested,” Amico wrote.
Andre is set to make over $28 million this season, the last of his contract. If he doesn’t sign or agree to an extension, he can become an unrestricted free agent this upcoming summer.
The hope for the Celtics is that, with Drummond, they will have enough to compete in the East and fight for a Championship. No doubt, Dre’s arrival would significantly strengthen their backcourt which, at this moment, consists of Tristan Thompson and Daniel Theis.
Through 25 games, Drummond has averaged 17.5 points, 13.5 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks per game on 47% shooting. The Cavaliers are just 10-19 on the season.
