5 Best Buyout Candidates For The Warriors After The Trade Deadline

The Golden State Warriors are a team that is currently a contender. They are the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference with a 42-15 record. It is clear that they’re a good team that has few holes on their roster, however.

  • 5. Moses Brown
  • 4. Gary Harris
  • 3. Derrick Favors
  • 2. Robin Lopez
  • 1. Goran Dragic

With that being said, every roster has room for improvement. The Warriors ended up making no moves at the trade deadline, but they can still improve via the buyout market. Here are the best potential buyout signings for the Golden State Warriors.

5. Moses Brown

Moses Brown

Moses Brown is a young center that last played for the Dallas Mavericks. Amidst injuries to James Wiseman and Draymond Green, the Warriors’ big man rotation has run thin. While Moses Brown isn’t a player that can play high minutes, perhaps he could fill up some minutes while others return from injury.

While he hasn’t had a particularly good year with the Dallas Mavericks, Brown put up 8.6 PPG and 8.9 RPG in 21.4 MPG for the Oklahoma City Thunder during the 2020-21 season. He would provide size and rebounding ability for the Warriors, as well as some solid interior finishing. Moses Brown is a free agent currently.

4. Gary Harris

Gary Harris

On a contending team, you can never have too much shooting and defense. Gary Harris is a player that is well-known for his 3 and D capabilities. Currently, Gary Harris is averaging 11.4 PPG while shooting 38.1% from beyond the arc.

Gary Harris would immediately fit into the Golden State Warriors’ system, and he will likely get a lot of open perimeter shots due to all the passing and movement on the team. The Orlando Magic are rebuilding right now, so he could potentially get bought out.

3. Derrick Favors

Derrick Favors

Derrick Favors is another center option for the Golden State Warriors. He is currently playing for the tanking Oklahoma City Thunder. Overall, he is a center that has playoff experience and one that can provide some interior finishing and size.

On the Golden State Warriors, Derrick Favors would likely backup Kevon Looney and provide big man minutes for the bench. He could potentially thrive on Golden State as well since their big men often get easy opportunities at the rim due to the defensive attention their shooters command.

2. Robin Lopez

Robin Lopez

Robin Lopez is a very good veteran center that is currently on the Orlando Magic. He would be amazing as a backup that can screen well, protect the rim, and score in the interior.

The Warriors need a player that is willing to defend and do the little stuff on the court as a big man, and Robin Lopez fits the bill. If he ends up getting bought out, then Robin Lopez is a buyout option the Warriors need to explore.

1. Goran Dragic

Goran Dragic

Goran Dragic might be the best player overall on the buyout market. It was recently reported that he and the Spurs will be negotiating a buyout, with the Warriors reportedly being one of the teams trying to sign him.

The Golden State Warriors could use a combo guard who could toggle between either guard position. Goran Dragic is capable of shooting the ball well and playmaking for others. He is also an experienced veteran that has been on a lot of playoff runs. Getting a player like Dragic for the bench would be a luxury for the Warriors, especially on a veteran minimum.
