Making moves is something extremely important for every single team through the offseason, trying to offload as much money as possible in order to make runs to land some top-notch talents that can boost their contention chances.

With the salary cap drastically rising over the last couple of campaigns or so, some franchises overpaid for several young men and role players thinking they were set to be key pieces in their projects, but truth to be told, they didn’t fare that good at all.

And now that we’re set to face a key free agency with several great players up for grabs, there are several teams that must be definitely regretting to be so over the cap. That’s why today we’re going to let you know about the top 5 teams that need to make moves in order to clear salary cap this summer.

5. Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards are once again on the verge of a 1st round playoff exit after such an inconsistent season plagued with up and downs and subpar performances against lesser squads, and they need to change a lot of things if they intend to keep John Wall for the long run.

They need to add at least one more All-Star this season to play next to Wall and Beal, and they should definitely try and move Ian Mahinmi, Markieff Morris and Marcin Gortat, with the team owning a payroll of $124.834.613 for the upcoming campaign.

4. Cleveland Cavaliers

The Cleveland Cavaliers have thrived for years by going over the salary cap, making three straight NBA Finals appearances and even winning one Championship led by their standout big three of LeBron James, Kevin Love and Kyrie Irving.

Nonetheless, they’re set to face a key free agency this season with James keen to become an unrestricted free agent, so if they want to keep him and add more firepower to surround him, they better move JR Smith, Tristan Thompson and George Hill, with them set to pay as much as $139.521.659 for the season.

3. Charlotte Hornets

The Charlotte Hornets are likely to go through yet another major roster overhaul to kickstart their 1000th rebuilding process after being stuck on a mediocrity spiral for almost a decade, meaning they’re likely to dump a lot of salary cap with several trades during the season.

Kemba Walker is most likely to be dealt in order to land some picks and young assets, while they’re also trying to move Michael Carter-Willimas, Tyler Zeller and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist as the team is set to pay as much as $119.721.746 next season.

2. Portland Trail Blazers

The Portland Trail Blazers thrived all season long but proved once again that isolation isn’t going to get you far in the postseason, so they definitely need to shake off their roster in order to find an offensive rhythm and flow and not let all things go through their backcourt.

Portland is on the verge of Championship contention but has several players that are pretty much no-shows and liabilities, so they should try and move guys of the likes of Evan Turner, Mo Harkless and Meyers Leonard, with them due to pay as much as $111.299.249 for the 2019-20 campaign.

1. Miami Heat

The Miami Heat have a great coach but actually lack true top-notch talent, with neither Goran Dragic or Hassan Whiteside being skilled enough to lead this team to Championship contention, and they’re by far the team most over the cap with $144.296.671 for the upcoming campaign.

They’re already a lock to try and move Hassan Whiteside after his no-show during the playoffs, and they should also be smart to try and move Tyler Johnson’s huge deal in order to kickstart their rebuilding process.
