5 Smart Moves The Chicago Bulls Should Make This Summer

The Chicago Bulls have mightily struggled to go back to their former dominant self, as they haven’t been able to be true Championship contenders ever since the Michael Jordan era despite Rose’s and Butler’s surge.

  • 5. Trade Omer Asik, Robin Lopez And Cristiano Felicio
  • 4. Draft Mo Bamba, Michael Porter Jr Or Mikal Bridges
  • 3. Keep Zach LaVine
  • 2. Use Young Lineup
  • 1. Don’t Overspend This Summer

Nonetheless, the diehard Bulls fan base has always been quite faithful to their team, and the future seems bright for this young squad after making great strides the prior campaign amid their rebuilding process.

Now, entitled of the 7th overall pick and after seeing what these young men are capable of doing, it seems like they may be going back to the playoffs way sooner than expected, but in order to do that, we’re going to let you know about the 5 things they definitely need to do this season.

5. Trade Omer Asik, Robin Lopez And Cristiano Felicio

Truth to be told, the fact that they didn’t trade Robin Lopez the prior campaign was quite surprising, especially towards the ladder passage of the season. Naturally, they’re going to have to try and move these assets during the summer when they value may still be high.

Omer Asik is nowhere near the strong defender he used to be, while Cristiano Felicio shouldn’t even be in this league as a tweener big man with no upside or talents. Lopez may find several suitors, but they’re likely to have to part ways with 2nd round picks in order to get rid of the trio of big men.

4. Draft Mo Bamba, Michael Porter Jr Or Mikal Bridges

Mo Bamba

Well, the Bulls can’t go wrong in the Draft at 7th with this either of these 3 young men right here. While Bamba has made great strides and turned a lot of heads with his freakish wingspan and top-notch defensive attitude, he’s unlikely to be up for grabs as he’s expected to go as high as 3rd in this year’s draft.

Michael Porter Jr has been spotted using a lot of Bulls gear ever since committing to Mizzou, so it’s clear he’s eager to play for Chicago and he might as well be the most talented athlete of this class, although injuries may be a concern.

Bridges, on the other hand, is an already well round up defender that spent a lot of time at Villanova and may wind up being the safest bet at 7th as a 3 and D specialist.

3. Keep Zach LaVine

Zach LaVine was terrific ever since making his return from his season-ending injury, and it’s looking like a solid foundation for this rebuilding process at Chicago, although his durability is going to be a huge concern and he’s never going to be much of a defender (a few reasons why they should be cautious when offering him a max deal).

LaVine is a terrific ball handler, and impressive athlete and has even improved a lot as a playmaker and off-ball shooter, and he really made this team better when he was able to be back out there, so keeping him is pretty much a no-brainer here.

2. Use Young Lineup

The Chicago Bulls were kind of reluctant to enter rebuild mode despite the fact that they had pretty much no assets other than Butler and a borderline washed out Dwyane Wade, but it’s time to move on and use young players on the starting lineup and build the franchise through the Draft.

This season, things need to be a lot different, as they need to rely on just young players and either trade veteran players, buy them out or just flat out waive them. A Kris Dunn, Zach LaVine, Lauri Markkanen and Bamba/Porter/Bridges lineup would be great to watch for years to come.

1. Don’t Overspend This Summer

Firework of dollars

The Chicago Bulls don’t have much cap space available for this summer and they have virtually no shot at landing any top-tier free agents either, so they shouldn’t be very active on this year’s free agency and save money for the next summer.

Also, this team doesn’t need veterans, as they should just leave their youngsters to play through their mistakes. Worst-case-scenario, they wind up getting another top 10 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft, building through the Draft like the Golden State Warriors did.
