Ever since the dawn of basketball, having a steady 1-2 punch or “Big Three” has become a synonym for success, and over the course of history, we’ve seen dozens of duos or a few superteams that take the league for assault en route to the highest of levels.
Duncan and Robinson, Bird and McHale, Magic and Kareem, Shaq and Kobe, LeBron, Bosh and Wade, Jordan and Pippen, Curry, Durant and Thompson are just a handful of great examples of duos or superteams that dominated both sides of the ball and took their teams to glory.
It’s always great to watch top-notch players team up with other great talents, and today, we’re going to let you know about the top 5 superteams that could become a reality next season, either via trade or free agency.
5. Phoenix Suns
Devin Booker And Karl-Anthony Towns
Apparently, Karl-Anthony Towns and the Minnesota Timberwolves have had it with each other, and considering the Phoenix Suns have a lot of young and appealing assets to offer, they may be one of the few logic landing spots for the young stud, as he’d thrive on a faster, more dynamic offensive system at the desert.
Booker is already one of the league’s best scorers despite his youth, while Towns has made great strides as well, and both could become one of the most dominant 1-2 punch for years to come. In order to get him, Phoenix would have to give up Elfrid Payton, Marqueese Chriss and their 1st pick to the Minnesota Timberwolves.
4. Boston Celtics
DeMarcus Cousins, Kyrie Irving And Gordon Hayward
DeMarcus Cousins suffered a heart-breaking injury just when he was on the verge of finally making his playoff debut, and now that rumors point towards him leaving the Pelicans after the team fell short against the Dubs, the Celtics would make a lot of sense for him as a landing spot, although he’d had to take a pay cut.
There, he would easily make the playoffs and even reach the Finals, playing next to another player that was shut down for the season due to injury: Uncle Drew himself. Kyrie is one of the deadliest scorers in the league and the Celtics were just one All-Star shy of making the Finals, so why not add another? On a side note, they would have to do a sign and trade, with NOLA landing Morris, Smart, Brown and Rozier.
Just imagine the starting lineup for the 2018-19 Boston Celtics: Kyrie Irving, Gordon Hayward, Jayson Tatum, Al Horford and DeMarcus Cousins.
3. Los Angeles Lakers
Kawhi Leonard And Paul George
Paul George has been linked with a move to the Los Angeles Lakers for a couple of seasons now, so this one seems like a done deal even before the start of free agency, him being an LA native that grew up a die-hard Lakers fan and would love to carry Kobe Bryant’s torch and finally play for the big market he’s always been worthy of.
On the other hand, Kawhi doesn’t want to stay with the San Antonio Spurs, and the Lakers would be quite aggressive in their pursuit for top-notch talents, even if that means breaking up their young core. So, they could make quite an appealing offer, sending away Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and a future pick to the Spurs in order to get the Klaw.
2. Philadelphia 76ers
Ben Simmons, Joel Embiid And LeBron James
Ben Simmons has already proven that the comparisons he drew with LeBron James were quite justified, being an incredibly crafty playmaker as a point forward that could play and guard all 5 spots on the court with great ease.
With the Sixers being one of the frontrunners to land LeBron this summer, Simmons could really make the most of his mentorship and grow to become one of the league’s most dominant players ever. Oh, and don’t forget about Joel Embiid, c’mon King, trust the Process already and give the City of Brotherly Love another Chip.

1. Golden State Warriors
Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant And Anthony Davis
With DeMarcus Cousins already out of the team and Davis knowing that there’s no chance in hell that they win a Championship, he could push for a trade to a contending side where he can finally succeed in the playoffs, and which would be a better landing spot than the best team of the decade and arguably the history of basketball?
Since Klay Thompson will enter free agency in 2019 and money’s kind of tight in the Bay right now, they could package Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andre Iguodala in order to pair the Unibrow with Curry and Durant, forming one of the scariest big 3s ever.
