  • Muggsy Bogues had a 2.3 career offensive rebounding percentage
  • Kevin Durant, despite being 6’10”, has a 2.2 career offensive rebounding percentage
  • Bogues wants Durant to be more aggressive in pulling down offensive rebounds

Muggsy Bogues enjoyed a 14-year-long career in the NBA. Playing for more than a decade in the league despite being 5’3″ is truly a great achievement.

During his career, Bogues averaged 7.7 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 7.6 assists per game. But one of the most fascinating comparisons between Muggsy Bogues with Kevin Durant was recently brought to light by Emily Austin of ‘The Hoop Chat.’

“Even though I was a small guard, I always got those long rebounds,” Bogues responded to having a better career offensive rebounding percentage than Durant. “I chased them down, and I was always in the right place at the right time.”

He added: “But I didn’t know my percentage was better than Kevin Durant. He needs to get in there and rebound a little more.”

Bogues had a 2.2 career offensive rebounding percentage, while Durant has 2.3. For their careers, Bogues averaged 0.6 offensive rebounds per game and so far, Durant has averaged 0.7 offensive rebounds per game.

Despite having a 1’7″ height advantage over Bogues, Durant slacks in being a better offensive rebounder. But what Durant lacks there, he makes up by pulling down defensive rebounds. For his career, KD has averaged 6.4 defensive rebounds per game.

Kevin Durant Has Always Been A More Offense-Heavy Player

In 986 games, Kevin Durant has averaged 27.3 points, 7.1 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game. Durant is regarded as an elite scorer, and most believe he is in the conversation of the best scorer of all time.

Keeping that in mind, it’s no surprise that the 34-year-old believes offense is more important than defense in the NBA. After all, a game is won by the team that scores more points.

While many disagreed with Durant’s assessment, it has worked well for him so far. He is a 2x NBA champion, 2x NBA Finals MVP, 1x NBA regular season MVP, 10x All-NBA, 13x NBA All-Star, 4x NBA Scoring Champion, and 2x NBA All-Star Game MVP.
