Stephen Curry was a top 3 MVP candidate last year, and it seems as though his momentum has carried over to this season. Despite a small shooting slump prior to his recent 50 point outing against the Atlanta Hawks, Stephen Curry is averaging 27.6 PPG, 6.6 RPG, and 6.6 APG while shooting 38.8% from beyond the arc.

There is no question that Curry is still one of the best superstars in the league, and he has led the Warriors to a 9-1 record. During a recent appearance on 95.7 The Game, Steve Kerr claimed that Stephen Curry wants other players to know that “he’s still got it”, and that Curry is “going to take on the challenge” no matter who is in front of him. Josh Schrock of NBC Sports relayed the news.

When I say Steph is competitive on a lot of different levels, that’s kind of what I mean,” Kerr told “Damon and Ratto.” “He finds ways to motivate himself and it’s not fake. It’s real. He wants to win a championship. He wants to beat the best teams. He wants to let other players in the league know that he’s still got it.

“He’s going to take on the challenge whether it’s LeBron [James] or one of the best players in the league, or a young guy like Trae who is up and coming and maybe following in Steph’s footsteps. All of that stuff factors in and is one of the reasons he is as great as he is. It goes so far beyond the skill. It’s the competitive desire and the belief in himself that he can follow through on that competitiveness

The Golden State Warriors have shown no signs of stopping thus far, though many, such as JJ Redick have noted that their schedule has been relatively easy on the way to their top-tier record. However, it would be unwise to doubt Stephen Curry’s ability, and the Warriors have looked like contenders this season.

While Stephen Curry has been able to get a great record thus far, there is potential for the team to improve even further later in the season. With Klay Thompson and James Wiseman back from injury the Warriors should certainly become a better team, and they’re a squad no one will want to face in the playoffs due to their prowess on both ends of the floor.
