The Milwaukee Bucks won their second championship in franchise history at the conclusion of the 2020-21 season with Giannis Antetokounmpo winning Finals MVP. All was good in Milwaukee, and many viewed them as a contender going into the 2021-22 season.
Despite that, the Milwaukee Bucks have had a slow start to the season, and are currently 4-4 on the season. They have just snapped a 3-game losing streak by winning against the Detroit Pistons. While this isn’t an optimal beginning to the new year for the Bucks, plenty of teams start slow and pick it up as the season goes on.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has recently talked about the Milwaukee Bucks finally getting breaking their losing streak, and joked that he thought the team “were tanking for the No. 1 pick”.

Oh man, I feel so good… We won. We won, oh my god! Oh my goodness. I thought we were tanking, I thought were tanking for the number one pick. Phew!
Of course, it’s clear that the Milwaukee Bucks are far from being a tanking team. They were widely viewed as a contender, and a slow start doesn’t necessarily change that. Charles Barkley even had them as one of the best 3 teams in the NBA alongside the Brooklyn Nets and the Los Angeles Lakers. Hopefully, their win against the Detroit Pistons will get them back on track.
Giannis Antetokounmpo succeeded in winning a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks last season, but it remains to be seen if he is able to repeat. There are a lot of good teams in the NBA this year, and thus far, a lot of games have been very competitive. However, the Milwaukee Bucks are a very good team on both ends, and they’ve certainly shown that they’re no pushovers in last year’s playoffs. Perhaps we’ll end up seeing Giannis Antetokounmpo get his second Finals MVP this year, but the road to that will certainly be difficult.
