Kareem Abdul-Jabbar has always been a fan-favorite of the NBA community. Despite having retired from the league decades ago, he has stayed in the spotlight for all these years, making frequent appearances in the media to share his thoughts and perspectives with the world.

Today, the 74-year-old basketball legend even has an Instagram, which is usually reserved for the more serious or personal subject matter.

Unfortunately for Kareem, he decided to use the platform to post a meme, which did not impress many of his followers.

The picture, which featured a lion hunting a gazelle, looks like it was intended to be saying something about the relationship between Kevin Durant and LeBron James.

Instead, it just confused a lot of people, as neither the picture nor the caption associated with it, makes his message very clear.

Naturally, folks light-heartedly roasted Kareem for the post, but there was some lighter stuff mixed in as well.

Here are some of the best comments we saw:

If we had to guess, the post is probably referring to all the talk about Kevin Durant being the best player in the world. The title, which has belonged to Broon for years, is seemingly up for grabs now that James is 36-years-old and coming off a season where he was bounced in the first round.

Still, James has earned the benefit of the doubt, and Kareem is made his respect for King James known in the past. Here’s what he said about James potentially passing him on the all-time scoring list:

“I’m excited to see it happen. I don’t see records as personal accomplishments, but more as human achievements. If one person can do something that’s never been done, that means we all have a shot at doing it. It’s a source of hope and inspiration. Roger Bannister broke the four-minute mile back in 1954. Since then, not only have 1,400 runners beaten that time, but the new record is 17 seconds less. We all win when a record is broken and if LeBron breaks mine, I will be right there to cheer him on.”

So, it’s probably not a long shot to assume Kareem was backing up LeBron. It’s a shame his meme wasn’t appreciated, though. Maybe next time, the community will be a little more accepting…
