John Wall is 31 years old, but he has a ton of mileage on his body due to the countless injuries he suffered throughout his career. Wall managed to play like an All-Star and one of the best point guards in the league in the 2017 season, but his career would be sidetracked the following year where he only appeared in 41 games. Since then, Wall has only appeared in 72 games over 3 seasons.

The Houston Rockets acquired the 5-time All-Star last offseason in a swap deal for Russell Westbrook, and the point guard showed flashes of his past self with explosive attacks to the rim and pinpoint dimes. But once again, Wall could not stay healthy and only appeared in 40 games. On a rebuilding Rockets squad, Wall might not have a place and that means he could be bought out. In this situation, Wall would become a free agent, and here are the 5 best destinations for the veteran point guard.

5. Dallas Mavericks

The Mavericks are rumored to be in the mix for veteran point guard Goran Dragic, but adding John Wall will not hurt the team if the Mavericks acquire the Slovenian or not. Wall will probably not stay healthy for the entire year or even make an All-Star Team, but he can realistically take over ball-handling duties and playmaking responsibilities from Luka Doncic.

Dallas want to compete in the West and relieving pressure off their 22-year old superstar would do wonders in keeping the team battle-ready by the postseason. John Wall averaged 20.6 PPG and 6.9 APG last season, so clearly, the man can still ball when he is on the court.

4. Golden State Warriors

There is no way the Golden State Warriors want anyone to take up minutes from Stephen Curry, but that could actually be a good thing if the team wants to manage the 33-year old’s minutes a little better. Curry played 34.2 MPG last season and had to carry the team on his back, en route to barely missing the playoffs.

With Klay Thompson returning, the Warriors are back in contention, adding a veteran point guard and former All-Star could help Klay slowly find his feet again. Wall and Curry could absolutely play together and adding another playmaker boost Golden State’s stock as playoff contenders in a crowded Western Conference.

3. Los Angeles Lakers

The Lakers are in the mix for every battle-proven veteran, so adding John Wall would fit right into their plans. Wall is 31 years old, and would actually be one of the younger stars on the team. With nothing to lose, Los Angeles finds their backup for Russell Westbrook while Wall has the best chance for winning an NBA title in front of him.

The Lakers have a ton of backup guards already in Rajon Rondo, Kendrick Nunn, and Malik Monk; but adding in another one would not hurt at all. Westbrook can expectedly miss around 20 games per season, and Rondo will be 36 at some point next season. Los Angeles could always use a capable playmaker and scorer at the point guard position because Wall will also provide cover for the soon-to-be 37-year old LeBron James.

2. Brooklyn Nets

The Brooklyn Nets have had another fantastic offseason, bringing in veterans LaMarcus Aldridge, Paul Millsap, and Patty Mills to the team. Adding in John Wall would give Brooklyn another former All-Star and a capable scoring guard to bolster their bench. Brooklyn’s roster was a little thin last season when Kyrie Irving and James Harden suffered injuries, so Wall can act as an excellent backup plan.

Only one can imagine a lineup with Wall, Irving, Harden, and Durant on the floor together as they would be unstoppable in both the half-court and in transition. Even though John Wall is slightly older and injury-prone, he is still lightning quick and can bring a different element to an already-stacked Nets squad.

1. Los Angeles Clippers

With Kawhi Leonard out for most of the upcoming season, all eyes are on Paul George to become an MVP candidate once again. But George will desperately need help over 82 games, even if the Clippers brought back Reggie Jackson to a 2-year contract. John Wall would be that answer, a man who can still put up 20 PPG with relative ease.

If Wall can stay healthy for 40 or 50 games, that would be enough of a stopgap for the Clippers until Leonard returns on the floor. John Wall’s playmaking and scoring in one on one situations allow George the freedom to operate off the ball a little bit. The Clippers want to compete for an NBA title by all means, and signing a former All-Star could give them another shot at doing that in the form of a late playoff run.
