Dennis Schroder isn’t living the best times right now. The German player saw how his contract situation drastically changed in the past couple of months after rejecting a generous 4-year, $84 million offer from the Los Angeles Lakers.
This offseason, the purple and gold traded for Russell Westbrook, getting an All-Star point guard to play alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. Schroder’s market has significantly reduced now, with only the Boston Celtics interested in the player.
According to Jordan Schultz of ESPN, the C’s are offering Schroder a one-year, $5.9 million contract. Dennis isn’t interested in that and is demanding more from the Greens.
Celtics have offered Dennis Schroder a one-year deal – at the taxpayer $5.9M MLE – per league sources. The current hold up for Schroder is twofold: He wants the full MLE – which is $9.5M – and also seeks a second-year player option. Boston doesn’t want to be hard-capped.

Things go wrong for Schroder really fast. He could have signed a juicy contract a couple of months ago and secure his future but decided to bet on himself. Of course, there’s nothing wrong with that, but now Dennis doesn’t have many options to continue his NBA career.
The player is reportedly in a ‘state of shock‘ after turning down the Lakers’ initial offer, but there’s nothing he can do now. He can still be a valuable player on any other team in the league. If the Celtics offer him that option, he should go for it and try to get a new deal next year.
