It’s not a secret that Michael Jordan’s ‘The Last Dance’ was strictly designed and orchestrated to raise Michael’s status as the greatest player of all time.
That’s why everything that made the final cut has that sole purpose. It was all about him – and rightfully so. So you can’t help to wonder what may have been left out of the final version.
One of the most notable things about the documentary was the fact that Luc Longley – one of the key pieces in the Chicago Bulls during the Jordan era – was nowhere to be seen.
Recently, the Australian big man admitted that he was kind of bummed out when he watched the documentary and wasn’t even called to do an interview for it:
“Sitting there on the couch and watching episode after episode where I wasn’t in it; yeah I was bummed about that. Why was I not in the doco? I don’t really know, to be honest,” Longley said, as quoted by Essentially Sports.
Jordan himself admitted that Longley’s omission was one of the few things that he would do differently if he had another chance to do the documentary, which also raised several controversies regarding Scottie Pippen.
Nonetheless, and even though they weren’t exactly friends back in the day, Longley says that their relationship has improved a lot after retirement:
“Interestingly, MJ [Michael Jordan] and I, our exchanges now are really friendly and warm,” he added. “Now that we’re not playing together, there is room for that.”
Jordan wasn’t the easiest guy to deal with in the locker room. He wanted nothing but greatness from everybody around him and he could be pretty harsh with words.
But at least, these two players were able to put the team first and do whatever it took to win, even if it wasn’t always easy.
