NBA Fans Flame Jimmy Butler After Signing Massive Contract With Heat: “Embarrassing Overpay.”

31-year-old Jimmy Butler has found a lot of success in Miami.

After emerging as a star in Chicago (where he spent 6 seasons), he went on to play for Minnesota and Philadelphia, helping each team on their journey to rise up in their respective Conference.

Ultimately, his history hasn’t exactly been glowing. His exits from all of his previous teams were dramatic and came without any form of playoff success.

But with the Heat, Butler it seems he has found his permanent home, which is largely the reason why he recently agreed to stick around on 4-yr, $184million contract extension.

All-Star G Jimmy Butler has signed a four-year, $184M extension to stay with the Miami Heat, his agent Bernie Lee tells ESPN. Butler will be locked into the deal — with a player option — through 2025-2026.

The organization and its fans seem to be content with the extension, as it ensures they remain relevant for years to come.

But, for others, it’s a major overpay. On Twitter, fans went a little crazy with their takes on the situation, poking fun at Butler and his recent extension.

Here are some of the most glaring comments on the situation:

Embarrassing overpay.

Butler is not the greatest shooter, nor is he the best defender. But his production on both ends of the floor has been enough to convince Miami he’s the guy to lead them through this next era in their history.

In 2020, he proved it by taking the Heat to the FInals, where they were just 2 wins away from the title.

Last season, Butler averaged 21.5 points, 7.1 assists, and 6.9 rebounds on 49% shooting.

Between his skillset and leadership, re-signing Butler was really a no-brainer for Miami. The only question for them now is, will it be enough to win?

With the acquisitions of Kyle Lowry and P.J. Tucker, the Heat have a solid core that is capable of competing with the best of them. But with rivals like the Lakers, Nets, and Bucks, it won’t be easy for the Heat to make a return to the Finals.

At this point, all we can do is wait and see for ourselves. In the meantime, fans will only continue to doubt.
