The Dallas Mavericks are in a tough position right now. After getting eliminated by the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, reports surfaced suggesting the team would suffer significant changes this offseason.
Luka Doncic and Kristaps Porzingis were the main focus of those reports after failing to have a deep playoff run with the team. Their on-court chemistry is awful, and it’s not hard to imagine that things are worse when they’re not playing. What started as a promising experiment for the European duo has mightily failed, and the team needs to make some hard decisions.
Donnie Nelson is out, Rick Carlisle is out, and the picture doesn’t look that bright for the Texans. Recently, one NBA insider revealed that the relationship between Doncic and Porzingis is practically unsalvageable. Tim MacMahon joined Zach Lowe on The Lowe Podcast to discuss the Mavs’ current situation, dropping some gems on the relationship of Luka and Kristaps.
“Porzingis is not at all enjoying playing for Dallas,” MacMahon mentioned on the podcast, via Matt Wadleigh of Clutch Points.
Furthermore, the ESPN insider said that the Slovenian and the Latvian simply don’t like each other, making things difficult for the franchise.
“Porzingis and Luka do not like each other.”
This is not a good situation for Dallas. They had something good going on over there but things are very different right now. Luka is linked with other franchises around the league; he is unhappy with Nelson’s departure from the team, and all these situations only fuel the rumors that he might leave the team at some point.
If the job was already hard, now it’s more complicated given Luka and Porzingis’ non-existent relationship.
