Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr is among the thousands of Californians to be affected by the Pacific Palisades fire which started on Tuesday. Amongst the people evacuated from the area, a notable name is Ann Kerr, the mother of the eight-time NBA Champion.

Ann Kerr confirmed to San Francisco Chronicle’s Ron Kroichick that their family home tragically burned down in the fire.

“The home of Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr’s mother “tragically burned” in the Palisades Fire, Ann Kerr wrote in a text message Wednesday. The extent of damage to the house was not immediately clear. Ann Kerr sent a group text in response to friends and acquaintances who had checked on her safety in the wake of the devastating fires that broke out Tuesday morning. She evacuated Tuesday and “re-evacuated” twice, she wrote in a subsequent text to the Chronicle. She initially stayed with friends, she wrote, and was sharing a hotel room Wednesday afternoon.”

The house has been owned by the Kerr family since 1969 when they purchased it. Steve Kerr was four years old at the time and would even play basketball at the local Palisades High School before playing college basketball for Arizona.

The family hasn’t been able to physically verify the status of their house, but various family members believe it to have burned down given the devastation in the immediate surroundings.

The Palisades fire has greatly impacted Los Angeles. Pictures and videos on social media highlight the extent of the damage caused by the fire, with entire neighborhoods burning down.

Kawhi Leonard had to cut his recent return to the court short due to the fire, taking time away from the Los Angeles Clippers to ensure his family’s safety amidst the crisis.

“Los Angeles Clippers star Kawhi Leonard is stepping away from the team sources told me, he is going to tend to family in the L.A. area who were forced to evacuate due to the wildfires that’s going on over there,”

Los Angeles Lakers head coach JJ Redick has also revealed that his family was among the many evacuated from the region.

“I just want to say one thing real quick. Just want to acknowledge and send thoughts and prayers to everyone in Palisades right now. It’s where I live. My family, my wife’s family, my wife’s twin sister, they’ve evacuated.

This is a tragic event, with thousands seeing their homes burn down to begin the new year. Fadeaway World extends our thoughts to everyone affected by this calamity while hoping everyone stays safe.

The NBA is considering a postponement of the Lakers vs. Charlotte Hornets game scheduled at the Crypto.com Arena in Downtown Los Angeles on Thursday. The Clippers are currently in Denver playing a road game against the Nuggets, with their next home game scheduled for Saturday against the Hornets.
