With season averages of 27.4 points, 6.2 assists, and 4.8 rebounds per game on 50.4% shooting, Kyrie Irving is once again proving why he’s among the NBA’s most elite players.
And as the Nets gear up for their upcoming playoff run, Irving has become the target of admiration and praise from the community, and even former basketball legends themselves.
“The greatest compliment I can give him is he really is a video game,” said Magic Johnson, via Nets Daily. “These kids play it — my grandson plays it, my son plays it — and he’s out there actually doing it.
“He’s the one player who can electrify a crowd while also making the opposing players on the bench go crazy after he just crossed up their teammate. That’s how great he is.”
Kyrie’s game is really turning a lot of heads, and it’s been awesome to watch.
“It’d be like if you took guitar lessons and then played the guitar, ‘OK, it sounds good,’” said Isiah Thomas. “And then you get Jimi Hendrix to play the guitar and it’s like, ‘Oh s—t!’ It’s like, ‘What’s that?’ And that’s what we’re watching here. That’s what I was trying to be like. There’s no category for that.”
A 7x All-Star, 2x All-NBA player, and 2016 NBA Champion, Uncle Drew has a track record of success in the league, and there is no doubt he is one of the best.
This season, however, questions remain about whether or not he can lead the Nets to a respectable conclusion. With three superstar players on the roster, anything but a title will be akin to failure.
Kyrie has certainly stepped up to the plate before, but we’ll just have to wait and see how it all ends this year.
