It’s pretty fair to say that the Golden State Warriors are far from where they were used to being since Steve Kerr took the realms of the team. Then again, they’re also far from being a bottom-feeder team as they were last year.
The Warriors are stuck in the middle, which sometimes is the worst place you could be in the NBA. However, with just a couple of moves, they could be contenders once again, as Stephen Curry is playing at an MVP level.
That’s why, according to Bob Myers, the team is going to be way more aggressive as they approach the trade deadline as they’ve been over the past couple of years;
“It’s the balancing act as far as what makes sense now but doesn’t hamper us in the future. What can we do that maybe can be beneficial this year and into next year? We’ll be aggressive. We’ll look around. There were years where we had the best record and were pretty quiet at the trade deadline. We didn’t really do much or make many calls. I think we’ll be more open in making calls and listening to calls than we’ve been,” Myers said on 95.7 The Game, as quoted by Essentially Sports.
The Warriors weren’t used to making many moves, mostly because they didn’t need to. They had the most overpowered team in the league and not much flexibility in terms of cap space. That’s no longer the case:
“Last year, we did stuff — got out of the tax, did the (Andrew) Wiggins deal — so that was active. But nothing was on the line for that season so to speak. But there are things on the line this season. So if we can make a move to get us better … you gotta find a partner that fits what you’re looking to do.
Golden State are currently sitting at the 9th spot in the Western Conference and are above .500. They have a shot to make the playoffs and they know that their championship experience can really make a difference in that stage, so we’ll have to wait and see who makes his way to the Bay before the deadline.
