Joel Embiid is one of the best players in the NBA this season thanks to all the impressive performances he’s had with the Philadelphia 76ers. The big man is now considered one of the favorites to win the MVP award and he’s not stopping there.
He’s been touted as one of the most promising players in the league since he entered the association a couple of years ago and if injuries don’t mess with his body, JoJo will leave a big mark on the game. More than that, the Cameroonian wants to serve as an inspiration for the younger generations, especially his son, Embiid’s biggest motivation now.
He recently opened up about this new chapter in his life, revealing that the experience has been great for him, although he hasn’t been as present as he would have liked but making it clear that he’s doing everything to make his child proud.
“He’s been great,” Embiid told NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Marc Zumoff on Wednesday. “I’m kind of bummed about not being home every single day. I miss them a lot when I’m on the road, but it’s been great. I like to keep my life private, so I don’t want to talk too much about it, but it’s been an amazing experience. Just watching him grow every single day makes me better. I think that’s also part of me being better this year.
“I want him to grow up and see his father be at the top of his game, the best in the game. I want him to see his father was a Hall of Famer and (won) titles, because I want him to be better than me. Just like my father growing up, I saw the success that he had. I wanted to be better than him. I’ve got to set the bar really high. I hope he’s able to be better than me.”
Before this season, fans and the media were wondering how the Cameroonian was going to play with Ben Simmons and so far they’re doing great. JoJo is embracing the role as the offensive leader of the team and the arrival of Doc Rivers has been great for him. He has everything to be great in the league and that is exactly his mission.
