Pau Gasol Attempting NBA Comeback, Wants To Return To The Lakers

6x NBA All-Star Pau Gasol has yet to make an appearance on the basketball court since the conclusion of the 2018-19 NBA season. As he contemplates retirement, the status of his playing future remains up in the air.

In a chat with ESPN, the 2x NBA Champ conveyed some thoughts on where and how he’d like to see his career end, citing a return to the Lakers as one of his top dream scenarios.

“There is meaning and history there,” Gasol told ESPN. “I’m not going to lie. It would be very special, and now that my brother [Marc] is there, even more special. But I’m not in a position now to be very demanding. I don’t have 10 offers on the table.”

“I want the opportunity to contribute — to feel needed. Not just to be there. That’s not who I am. I want to enjoy it, and players usually enjoy playing.”

Several big acquisitions were made by LA this offseason, two of which being bigs who will fill out the frontcourt rotation. It’s unsure whether or not they’d consider adding in a 40-year-old big man to the mix.

But even now, Pau has a lot to offer the Purple and Gold. Putting aside his long history with the franchise, that came with two titles and three All-Star appearances, he brings experience and a winning mentality to a team looking to secure their second-straight title.

If nothing else, it would definitely please the fans, who have already been pitching for Pau to return since the arrival of his brother last month.

Regardless, Pau is hopeful that he’ll be back in action before too long…

“I’d love to be on an NBA roster at some point again — and maybe not too far from now,” Gasol said.
