With rumors that Victor Oladipo wants out of Indiana, talks have ramped up about a possible move to Miami, where the Heat have just recently come off an NBA Finals appearance.
For a while, there was reported to be interest on both sides. But, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe, the Heat — and other potential suitors — have backed off their pursuit of the 28-year-old swingman, meaning he might end up staying right where he’s at.
“It would not surprise me if Oladipo and the Pacers come back to the table on extension talks,” stated Lowe. Indiana can offer him a four-year deal starting at $25 million per season. I’m not sure the Pacers would approach that number, but considering Oladipo’s recent play — and that some potential suitors, including the Miami Heat, have likely backed away — he would be wise to consider securing something.”
Oladipo is a 2x All-Star with a very well-rounded game. During his best season, in 2017, he averaged 23 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game on 47% shooting.
Unfortunately, Vic has spent most of the past two seasons on the sidelines, dealing with major injuries. With such a troubled past and questions about his durability, the Heat (and other teams) are being understandable hesitant in trading assets for him. It might be in his best interest to stick with the Pacers for the time being.
The 7-year star is due to hit free agency after 2021, unless he and the Pacers agree to an extension.
